Reliance Retail gets RS Sodhi Former Amul MD to run grocery business

The former GCMMF MD has been roped in to help the Isha Ambani-led retail business build on the growth of its grocery vertical with a focus on fruits and vegetables to strengthen the company's presence in the consumer brands segment.

RS Sodhi, former director of the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), which markets the Amul brand, has been appointed by Reliance Retail Ventures (RRVL), the retail arm of Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Industries (RIL), according to media reports. message.

The former GCMMF MD has been roped in to help the Isha Ambani-led retail business build on the growth of its grocery vertical with a focus on fruits and vegetables and strengthen the company’s presence in the consumer brands segment.
Sodhi left Amul in January after a 41-year run at GCMMF. Since June 2010, he has been the CEO of a cooperative giant in the dairy sector.

The development comes at a time when RRVL’s FMCG arm Reliance Consumer Products is aggressively expanding its presence by launching new products ranging from Campa-branded beverages to household and personal care items. Sodhi has been an important name in the growth of GCMMF over the years. When Sodhi took over as MD, the turnover of the federation was only Rs 9,774 crore in the 2010-11 fiscal. It reached Rs 61,000 crore in the financial year 2021-22.

RS Sodhi joined GCMMF in 1982 as Head of the Business Department after completing his education at the Institute of Rural Management Anand (IRMA). During his four decades at GCMMF, RS Sodhi has worked as Senior Sales Executive, Group Product Manager, AGM (Marketing), Chief General Manager, among others, according to his LinkedIn profile.

He served as GCMMF’s executive director for more than twelve years and stepped down from that position in January.
